Temporary Closures in Northeast Philadelphia for September 2nd

Temporary Closures in Northeast Philadelphia for September 2nd
Motorists and pedestrians advised of temporary delays and detours

PHILADELPHIA - There will be temporary, intermittent street closures in Upper Northeast Philadelphia to accommodate a helicopter lift of heavy equipment on Sunday, September 2, Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams announced.  The closures are expected to last from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The streets will not be completely closed the entire duration, but delays should be expected via intermittent closures as heavy equipment is carried overhead by the helicopter. If the work is completed sooner than anticipated, the road will be opened ahead of schedule. Red Lion Road between Roosevelt Blvd. and Norcom Road will be impacted by the lift.

Adjacent cross streets will close intermittently during this time. The street closures will allow for the safe delivery of the heavy equipment, and are a standard safety precaution. Due to the height of these buildings a helicopter is needed to set these units. For safety reasons and because of the nature of the work to be performed, the streets will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

The lift has been scheduled for a Sunday to minimize disruption to residents and businesses. Police assistance will be on hand to ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and work crews for the duration of all closures. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.
