STREETS DEPARTMENT TEMPORARILY OPENS THE RACE STREET
PEDESTRIAN CROSSING FOR JULY 4TH

Temporary Opening from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM

PHILADELPHIA – The Streets Department will temporarily open the Race Street Pedestrian Crossing to the Schuylkill River trail on Wednesday, July 4th  from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM to accommodate the expected crowds on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, announced Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams. Streets Department technicians will be on hand to manually operate the gates.

The electric gates have been closed since the week of June 25th due to a malfunction on the Race Street side causing an unsafe condition for trail users. An emergency contract will be issued to replace parts needed to make repairs.

Notice will be sent when the gates are repaired and reopened. The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during the repairs.
