PHILADELPHIA – The southbound (inbound) lane along Lincoln Drive between Wissahickon and Ridge Avenues has been immediately closed to traffic, announced Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams. A single lane closure was put in place on Tuesday morning when a routine inspection discovered a large piece of the guiderail had been damaged from being hit by vehicular traffic. Because the damaged portion of guiderail was protruding into the lane it was removed. In the interest of public safety, the southbound lane was closed in this area. The closure is expected to remain in effect through the end of the week when repairs can be scheduled. If the repairs are made sooner than expected the lane will be reopened to traffic.
The temporary closure is necessary as the Streets Department schedules and prepares for emergency repairs of the guiderail. Lane closure advanced warning signs, cones, and arrow boards will be installed to alert motorists of the closure.
Motorists are enouraged to use alternative routes during this lane closure as delays are expected during rush hour traffic. Southbound traffic will be required to merge into a single lane at Gypsy Lane and stay in a single lane from Gypsy Lane to Ridge Avenue. Northbound traffic will not be affected.
The Streets Department apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks motorists in advance for their patience and cooperation during as we work quickly as possible to make the necessary repairs.
