PHILADELPHIA – Maintenance work is scheduled for the Falls Bridge, between Kelly Drive and Martin Luther King Drive, overnight Tuesday, February 5th announced Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams. Temporary roadway restrictions go into effect at 9:00 p.m. Tuesday through 5:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Work is weather permitted, and if completed sooner than expected, the roadway may open earlier.
The Falls Bridge will be closed to all traffic. Detour routes will not be posted for the duration of the closure. Alternate Schuylkill River crossings include City Avenue (north of Falls Bridge), Roosevelt Boulevard (south of Falls Bridge), and Strawberry Mansion Bridge (accessible via MLK Drive). No significant delays are anticipated for either of the Drives as a result of this work.
This temporary closure will allow Streets Department employees to safely make repairs on the structure. This work has been scheduled during the over-night hours in order to expedite the repairs and minimize the disruption to motorists.
All work will be completed and traffic will be restored in time for the morning rush hour. For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The Streets Department thanks residents in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
