Big Belly Solar

Big Belly Solar is a global leader in providing sustainable waste collection solutions, with satisfied customers in virtually every U.S. state and 30 countries. Philadelphia has contracted to replace 700 conventional trash bins with 500 Big Belly solar-powered compacting trash bins and 210 companion recycling units. The new system includes a wireless communications capability that allows the city to better route and monitor vehicles and staff. Workers freed up by fewer collections are now used to staff the city's expanding recycling program. The Big Belly system marked the first public space recycling initiative in the City's history.

As tutors and mentors, City Year Greater Philadelphia corps members provide critically needed services to some of Philadelphia's most undeserved children and youth. Keep Philadelphia Beautiful

Keep Philadelphia Beautiful is a non-profit agency established in 2007 to encourage individuals to take greater responsibility for improving the physical and visual aspects of their communities. They do this by providing resources, education, assistance and promotion. KPB focuses specifically on the areas that individuals can directly impact through their own actions, such as litter prevention, beautification initiatives and waste reduction. Both public and private donations support the agency.

MLK365

As its name suggests, this national organization is dedicated to promoting year-round volunteer service and civic engagement. MLK365 provides a range of services, including technical training and assistance, to organizations interested in hosting King Day of Service projects, tracking all King Day of Service projects and volunteers throughout the region, and matching interested groups and individuals with volunteer project opportunities, events and joint initiatives all year long, several of them on behalf of cleanup efforts in targeted locations citywide.

The Philadelphia Community Corps (PCC) is a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit organization dedicated to revitalizing Philadelphia’s neglected neighborhoods through a variety of community service projects that focus on making an immediate difference with tangible results.

Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee

PMBC is part of the Streets Department's Sanitation Division, and was formed in 1965 as part of the "Clean-Up, Paint-Up, Fix-Up" initiative. Since then, it has evolved into a partnership between city government and more than 6,500 Block Captains and their organized blocks. PMBC is dedicated to combating neighborhood blight with organized block cleanings, and has grown to be one of the largest volunteer organizations of its kind in the country.

SWEEP

SWEEP (Streets & Walkways Education and Enforcement Program) was created by the City to educate citizens about their responsibilities under the Sanitation Code. SWEEP enforces the law against violators through intensified street patrols by uniformed litter enforcement officers, computerized tracking of code violation notices, and speedy adjudication of violations. SWEEP's education and enforcement measures support and enhance individual and community efforts to maintain a clean City.

The Philadelphia Department of Recreation

PDRC develops and adopts written standards regarding use of the city's park and recreational land and facilities, suggests ways to enhance revenue, and assists in promoting park and recreational facilities and programs. 15th STREET BRIDGE BETWEEN CALLOWHILL
AND SPRING GARDEN STREETS CLOSURE
Effective Wednesday, January 16

PHILADELPHIA - Effective Wednesday, January 16, the 15th Street Bridge between Callowhill and Spring Garden Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic, Streets Commissioner Clarena I. W. Tolson announced today. The closure is necessary in response to a routine inspection that found structural damage to the bridge.

The closure is effective for the entire length of the bridge and will be closed to vehicular traffic until further notice, however, pedestrians and bicycles will be permitted to cross. The posted detour route includes Broad Street from Spring Garden Street to Callowill Street.

The Streets Department regrets any inconvenience resulting from this closure. We would like to thank citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation. It is our goal to have the bridge opened as soon as possible.
