PRESS RELEASE: STREETS DEPARTMENT SCHEDULES MAINTENANCE WORK ON PASSYUNK AVENUE DRAWBRIDGE
Intermittent closures scheduled for Thursday, August 2 and Friday, August 3
PHILADELPHIA, PA – There will be intermittent closures along the Passyunk Avenue Drawbridge between 26th Street and 61st Street for maintenance work on Thursday, August 2 and Friday, August 3, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM Streets Commissioner Clarena I. W. Tolson announced today.
The work will require the drawbridge to be opened numerous times during the two-day project. No detours will be posted however it is suggested that users take alternate crossings of the Schuylkill River at the Platt Bridge to the south of Passyunk Avenue and at the Gray’s Ferry Avenue Bridge to the north.
This temporary closure will allow Streets Department employees to safely perform maintenance to the bridge. Due to the nature of the project, the work has to be performed during the daytime.
All work will be completed and traffic will be restored by 3:00 PM each day. For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
