PRESS RELEASE: STREETS DEPARTMENT SCHEDULES MAINTENANCE WORK ON PASSYUNK AVENUE DRAWBRIDGE

Intermittent closures scheduled for Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28

PHILADELPHIA – There will be intermittent closures along the Passyunk Avenue Drawbridge between 26th and 61st Streets for maintenance work on Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Streets Commissioner Clarena I. W. Tolson announced today.

The work will require the drawbridge to be opened numerous times during the two-day project for extended periods of time. No detours will be posted as the road will remain open, except for those times when the drawbridge is open. It is suggested that users of the drawbridge take alternate crossings of the Schuylkill River at the Platt Bridge to the south of Passyunk Avenue and at the Grey’s Ferry Avenue Bridge to the north.

This temporary closure will allow Streets Department employees to safely perform maintenance to the bridge. Due to the nature of the project, the work has to be performed during the daytime in order to expedite repairs.

All work will be completed and traffic will be restored by 3:00 PM each day. For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
